Spanish Short Stories,
Cuentos Hispanicos:
This collection is a good way to start
reading Spanish. You do need to know a little Spanish to get going, but
the brilliance of this collection lies in its translations side by side
with the short stories.
They are stories from known authors,
which makes a learner feel good, since it is “real” Spanish, not just
text book Spanish, which is often fabricated to make it approachable.
These stories are interesting and a good way into Spanish literature.
The translation on the opposite page means you keep up the momentum when
you are reading, which is essential to progressing with your learning.
I am a firm believer in reading to build
up language skills and I believe this is a great example of a book to
start on. It is appropriate for learners who are already advanced, say
up to A-level, so don’t think it is too basic.
